CRISPR • (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats)
The New Painting Series for the Second Semester of 2024 is freely inspired by the innovative and controversial biotechnology: CRISPR. A revolutionary gene-editing technique that aims not only to treat incurable diseases, but also to create what is already being called: “Designer Babies.” Here, parents will be able to choose their unborn children's eye color, hair type, height, and perhaps even enhance their intelligence.
For the first time in human history, we are playing “GOD” by altering the “Software of Life,” which is our DNA. In the case of a genetic error responsible for a disease, we will be able to rewrite the person’s genetic code, not only alleviating but curing diseases that have been incurable until today.
Here is a series of 7 paintings inspired by CRISPR… that will take you on a complex journey through composition, asymmetric balance and textures based on DNA's double helix. The art reimagines technology and biology in 7 provocative pieces… 6 of them can only be decoded by their owners, as each color over the black lines represents a letter of the alphabet, forming a PALINDROMIC word.
