CRISPR (W) • Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (WORLDWIDE)

As the culminating piece of an exploratory SERIES based on the biotechnology CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats), CRISPR (W) (CRISPR WORLDWIDE) represents the grand finale of a journey through genetic re-imagination. This piece takes the CRISPR SERIES to its ultimate conclusion, building on earlier explorations of gene editing and human ambition, but now leaping into the boldest, freshest perspective yet. Here, the artist confronts us with a vision of humanity at the brink of a new (r)evolution, one we ourselves command. Or DO we?

CRISPR (W) whispers its secrets. Nothing is immediately clear – and that is intentional. The artwork invites you to linger, to let your eyes and mind wander, uncovering elucidations layer by layer, much like decoding an ancient script… or a strand of cryptic DNA.

Unlike the previous artworks of this SERIES witch contained palindromes in a single language, CRISPR (W) incorporates 8 distinct palindromic words, written in a SECRET COLOR-CODED CIPHER of circuit-like patterns. These words read the same forward or backwards, each crafted in a different language. This special CIPHER KEY will be entrusted EXCLUSIVELY to the artwork's owner, allowing  them the privilege of decoding its mystery. Each colored dot represents a single letter, a subtle mark hiding profound meaning.

The languages encrypted within this symbolic palette are: English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Latin, Portuguese, and Afrikaans.

A Stylish KEY is hidden in a clear fossil resin, suggesting that we have found the way to master life’s SOFTWARE: DNA. Though, if we unlock the door and step inside, what will we see? What will we find? CRISPR (W) envisions a future where biotechnology and Artificial Intelligence have merged through CRISPR to make us architects of life, and forcing us to confront the enormity of that role. It’s like the language of creation is expanding beyond natural biology into the digital realm. Is a delicate metaphor for life nurtured by technology.

Every element is painted with crisp, sharp lines, some visible, some hidden within the labyrinthine canvas, as if to say nothing is as obvious as it seems. The viewer can almost feel the ripples of change emanating from the canvas in the form of three-dimensional black lines and shapes.

The deep black hues of the background clash dramatically with the horizontal ELECTRIC BLUE LINE, a stark contrast representing the tension between creation and destruction. It’s as if the artwork itself is split between awe and alarm.

The YELLOW LINE symbolizes light—the promise of curing genetic diseases, of designer organisms, of transcending biological frailty. It represents optimism, boldness, and the courage to illuminate dark uncertainties through science.

The horizontal CRIMSON RED LINE pulses quietly in the darkness of the canvas, representing both vitality and caution. It symbolizes blood, passion, and the very essence of life—yet it also evokes a surgical incision, a deliberate cut through nature’s code: DNA, a harsh warning of potential danger—the ethical boundaries we must navigate and the risks of going too far in our genetic ambitions.

The vertical GREEN LINE, sharp and defiant against the sea of black, symbolizes humanity’s unyielding desire to ascend—to push beyond biological constraints and natural limits…  to grow. It embodies our relentless ambition to reach upward toward transcendence, perfection, and perhaps even dare to reach… IMMORTALITY.

Together, these lines create a provocative interplay, each representing facets of humanity’s relationship with CRISPR: creation and destruction (blue), hopeful illumination (yellow), danger and ethical vigilance (red), intentional intervention and growth (green). They remind us that our future hangs delicately at the intersection of daring innovation and profound responsibility.

Every visual element has a declarative purpose, demanding the viewer’s attention and interpretation. As you move around the painting, faint images appear and disappear: the silhouette of a human being, the outline of an animal and the representation of flora. The painting makes artists of its observers, inviting them to actively decode, recreate, and reshape its mysterious layers, challenging them to move beyond mere spectatorship into co-creators of meaning—rewriting the genetic poetry hidden within the organic lines and secret symbols.

Most of the canvas is cast in deep shadow – reminding us of the looming risk of unintended consequences, of playing GOD, of unleashing something we cannot contain. It presents the act of creation in our hands as something at once magnificent and perilous.

Yet, lurking in the dark edges of the canvas is a CAUTION: a pair of spectral eyes watching from the lower left and right corners perhaps representing the judgment of the cautious eye of nature or maybe of future generations. Is it an all-seeing artificial intelligence entity observing its creation? No matter what you believe, this remind us that every (r)evolution comes at a cost.

Near the off-center, you will notice a tiny, glowing chromium dot. This is the quiet heart of the painting. Noticing it feels like discovering a revelation. Perhaps, this single point represents a new beginning – the birth of something entirely new. THE SECOND BIG BANG…

Here, CRISPR (W) delivers its most intimate message: that after all the philosophy, futurism, and mystery, at the core there is CREATION itself – PURE, neither good nor evil until we shape it.

The moral paradox of “Should we do it just because we can?” permeates the artwork. CRISPR (W), offers no comfortable middle ground – it demands that we confront this paradox head-on.

It brazenly asks:

Now that we can play GOD, do we understand what that truly means?

The painting’s last gift is not an answer but a feeling—a mix of wonder, hope, and a touch of fear.

The painting itself feels like a living organism of ideas, shifting, evolving, and revealing new depths as you engage with it. The longer you meditate on this work of art, the more it asks of you.

YOU’LL BEEN WARNED!!!
